Coimbatore: Over 100 cadres of CPI (M) staged an agitation in the city demanding regularisation of drinking water supply and cancellation of Suez agreement.
Citing that the State of Tamil Nadu is facing a major water crisis, the CPI (M) cadres are staging State-wide protests alleging the State government has failed to be proactive in addressing the water crisis.
"Inadequate monsoons rains have aggravated the water crisis problem in Tamil Nadu. However, it is the duty of the State government to ensure even distribution of drinking water to all its citizens", the protestors voiced.
The CPI (M) members also stressed to cancel the water distribution contract accorded to Suez, a multi-national company.
CPI(M) District Secretary Ramamoorthy led the protest.
